KIDZPLAYTM NZ
KidzPlayTM is a fun and interactive children's program that let's kids be the directors of their own creative journey's. Presented in two workshop streams: ArtPlayTM & GamePlayTM , participants will be immersed in an environment that cultivates their creative thinking and imagination. The aim of the KidzPlayTM program is to foster creative problem solving within groups and individual students across media, and to support children's visualisation and actualisation of goals and dreams at an early age in a fun and safe way.
In the ArtPlayTM Stream, children will be able to explore Music through singing, instrument playing, music appreciation, composition, recording & production. In the Art workshop, students can explore visual creativity through painting, drawing/sketching, sculpting, scrap-booking, crafting, art appreciation, planning & constructing. In the Film workshop, children can explore visual storytelling, set-making, sound & lighting, animation, acting, dance & performance, editing, film appreciation, and content making. In the Design workshop, students can explore visual design, architecture and landscaping, fashion & product design, invention making, branding, design appreciation, character & game designing. In the Writing workshop, children can enjoy storytelling and writing, including short story and script writing. These workshops will be presented as one-offs for short courses, or will alternate daily or weekly for longer courses. Longer courses will include more involved project outcomes per student, who are encouraged to develop and build upon their own ideas through the duration of the course.
Each ArtPlayTM activity is accompanied by a GamePlayTM workshop (per two hour block). The GamePlayTM stream uses imaginative games and mini-adventures such as pirate treasure hunts, sci-fi alien adventures or fairy tales in search of hidden fairy glades and gnome holes. These games are story based and explore not only the world of the imagination, but how to work together as a team or as an individual to solve puzzles or clues. The aim of GamePlayTM is also to have lots of fun. (Note: A LifePlayTM stream is in development that incorporates wider life-skill areas including basic financial, numerical and business literacy, cooking, social and communication skills and goal-setting, presented in an entertaining and age-appropriate way).
'I love children's art! There is an unpretentious rawness and creative abandon there that informs my own practice. I love working with and encouraging my own children's creativity, because they inspire me! Working in such children's and youth arts and community projects as Youthtown's Breakaway program, Te Uru Contemporary Art Gallery's education program, the START program, coordinating Taranaki's Children's Day initiative and the 12 Step art project, I felt inspired to explore an arts program where I can support children and families to shape and refine their own creative practice, whether that be in the visual arts, film, music, performance, game-making, designing or writing. Children are born creatives. (Just, check out my children's film project below!)' - Troy Egan, KidzPlay Founder.
